Privacy Policy
- Scans, file lists, the Privacy Vault, recovered files and quarantined items stay on your PC.
- The app has no analytics, telemetry or crash reporting, and no account to sign up for.
- It connects to the internet only for the four things listed under What goes over the internet.
Who we are
FreeSize Pro is a storage, security and data-recovery utility for Windows, made by an independent developer ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does with information about you and your computer. Questions go to the address under Contact.
What stays on your computer
Everything the app produces while you use it is stored locally, in your Windows user profile, and is never uploaded:
- Disk scan results, scan history, storage snapshots and exported reports.
- Your settings, theme and language choice.
- Files you lock in the Privacy Vault, encrypted with AES-256 using a password only you know. We cannot recover that password.
- Files you recover with Data Recovery, kept in an encrypted vault (AES-256, with the key protected by your Windows account).
- Items moved to quarantine by a security scan.
- An error log used for troubleshooting. It stays on your PC unless you choose to send it to us.
These live under %LocalAppData%\TreeSize. The folder keeps the app's original name so data carries over from earlier versions.
Security scans use Microsoft Defender, which is built into Windows, and the app's own local rules. Defender's cloud-protection settings are controlled by Windows and covered by Microsoft's privacy statement.
Data Recovery reads your drives directly, which needs administrator rights. It runs only when you start a scan, and it never writes to the drive it is scanning.
What goes over the internet
These are the only connections the app makes. Each one is listed with exactly what is sent.
| Service | When | What is sent | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| License check Lemon Squeezy |
When you activate or deactivate a license key, then at most once every 24 hours | Your license key, an activation ID, and your computer's name (shown in your list of activated devices) | To confirm your subscription is active and count the computers it's used on |
| Checkout Lemon Squeezy |
When you click a plan to buy it | Nothing from the app. The checkout opens in your web browser, and you enter your details there. | Lemon Squeezy is the seller of record. It handles payment, tax and invoices. We never see your card details. |
| Trial ads Ad feed |
During the free trial only. Never after you subscribe. | A plain download of the current ad list and its images. No identifiers are sent, and the app doesn't record or report which ads you see or click. | To show ads while you're on the trial |
| VirusTotal Off by default |
Only if you turn it on in Settings and add your own VirusTotal API key | The SHA-256 fingerprint (hash) of up to 10 high-severity detections per scan. File contents are never uploaded. | To check suspicious files against VirusTotal's database |
Like any internet request, these connections reveal your IP address to the server you connect to. Lemon Squeezy and VirusTotal handle what they receive under their own policies; see the Lemon Squeezy privacy policy and the policies published on virustotal.com.
Clicking an ad
When you click an ad, it opens in your web browser. The link carries tags such as utm_source=freesizepro so the advertiser can see that the visit came from FreeSize Pro. From then on you're on the advertiser's website, and its privacy policy applies.
Purchases and your subscription
When you subscribe, Lemon Squeezy shares your order details with us: your name, email address, plan and order history. We use these only to provide your license, answer support requests and meet tax and accounting obligations. We don't sell them or use them for marketing unless you opt in to that separately.
The app saves your activated license on your PC (key, plan name, purchase email and expiry date), encrypted with your Windows account so other users and apps can't read it.
The free trial
To make the 7-day trial work once per computer, the app reads the Windows installation ID (MachineGuid) and saves a signed record of when your trial started, in your user profile, the Windows registry and %ProgramData%\TreeSizePro. This record never leaves your computer.
Your choices and rights
- Delete local data: uninstalling leaves your data in place so you don't lose vaulted files by accident. To remove everything, delete
%LocalAppData%\TreeSizeand%ProgramData%\TreeSizePro. - Free up a license slot: deactivate the license in the app's subscription window. This removes the activation from your account.
- Turn off VirusTotal at any time in Settings. It stays off unless you turn it on.
- No ads: subscribing removes them, and they are never shown after the trial.
- Your purchase data: you can ask us to see, correct or delete the order details we hold, subject to records we must keep for tax law. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have further rights, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.
How long data is kept
Local data stays on your computer until you delete it. Order and license records are kept for as long as your subscription is active, and afterwards for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Children
FreeSize Pro is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling data differently, we'll update this page and its effective date before the new version ships.
